It’s a game where physical contact is replaced by the swift removal of a flag, making it accessible and enjoyable for players of all ages and genders. As flag football gains popularity, it’s carving out a place in the world of competitive sports, including its official inclusion in the 2028 Olympic Games and its recognition as a varsity sport by the NAIA and NCAA.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially approved flag football as one of the additional sports for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. This decision, taken by the 141st Session of the IOC, marks a historic moment for the sport, bringing it to the global stage and showcasing its appeal as a fast-paced, inclusive, and strategic game. The Atlantic East Conference, in partnership with the NFL and RCX Sports, and with support from the Philadelphia Eagles, has announced a groundbreaking initiative to sponsor varsity female flag football. This collaboration marks the Atlantic East Conference as the first NCAA Conference - Division I, II, or III - to offer varsity female flag football, with an anticipated start date of Spring 2025. This initiative is a significant step towards providing more opportunities for female athletes to play the game they love at the collegiate level. Plans are also in place to offer club-level opportunities and weekend tournaments starting Spring 2024, with five institutions - Centenary, Cabrini, Immaculata, Marymount, and Neumann - leading the way.
